SHOWS FOR YOUNGSTERS AND THEIR PARENTS TOO : KCET series on virtue starts with work ethic; a Batman plays a gazelle in Fox’s new ‘Goosebumps’

Adventures From the Book of Virtues premieres this week with three separate one-hour programs airing on consecutive nights (KCET, beginning Monday at 8 p.m.). Additional episodes are expected to air in the winter. The animated series draws themes from a collection of classic American stories, European fairy tales, African fables, Bible adventures, Greek mythology, Asian folk tales and Native American legends.

Monday’s stories about the work ethic include “How the Camel Got His Hump” and “Tom Sawyer Gives Up the Brush.” Tuesday’s episode is about responsibility and Wednesday’s stories focus on courage, which include William Tell shooting an apple from the head of his 8-year-old son. For the family.

A young girl is transported back in time to watch her grandmother dance in Gioacchino Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville,” in Rossini’s Ghost (HBO, Tuesday at 7 p.m.). For the family.

Nick (Mitch Mullany) thinks he has found the woman of his dreams in the new series Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher (WB, Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.). For ages 10 to 15.

It’s up to 12-year-old Skipper Mathews (Dan Warry-Smith) to defeat the evil villain and save the world in the “Attack of the Mutant” (Fox, Saturday at 10 a.m.). On this one-hour season premiere of Goosebumps, Adam West (of “Batman” fame) stars as the Galloping Gazelle. For ages 7 to 13.

When his mother doesn’t keep a promise, Jack (Zachary Ty Bryan from “Home Improvement”) decides to run away from home in Magic Island (Disney Channel, Saturday at 7 p.m.). Buccaneers, pirates and treasure become involved. For ages 5 to 10.
