CKE Restaurants Inc.: The Anaheim parent company of Carl Karcher Enterprises Inc. and Summit Family Restaurants Inc. reported that net income surged 86% in the second fiscal quarter while revenue climbed 19%.
CKE said it earned $5.2 million, or 27 cents a share, for the quarter ended Aug. 12, up from $2.8 million, or 15 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose to $128.1 million from $108 million.
Same-store sales in company-owned locations increased 10.3% during the quarter, marking the fifth consecutive quarterly increase. Franchisees also reported same-store sales increases of more than 10%.
The 1996 results include six weeks of operations for the 28 Rally’s Hamburgers restaurants that the company began operating on July 1, and two weeks of the operations of Summit Family Restaurants Inc., which was acquired on July 15.
First half net income more than doubled to $10.5 million, or 55 cents a share, from $4.7 million, or 26 cents a share, for the like six months last year. Revenue increased 14% to $281.1 million from $245.7 million.
