Exhibition to Honor John Outterbridge
“Tribute to a Man Named John: John Outterbridge,” an exhibition documenting the years when the artist directed the Watts Towers Arts Center and founded two music festivals, opens Sept. 21.
A free public reception for Outterbridge, including jazz performances, is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. at the center, 1727 E. 107th St.
Outterbridge directed the city-owned arts facility from 1975 to 1992.
He established the Simon Rodia Watts Towers Jazz Festival in 1976 and the Watts Towers Day of the Drum Festival in 1981.
