Corona del Mar Scores Last to Beat Marina
WESTMINSTER — Tim Thurman scored on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Mike McClellan with 3 minutes 31 seconds remaining to give Corona del Mar a 24-20 victory over Marina Thursday night at Westminster High.
The Vikings had taken a 20-17 lead three minutes earlier when Donald Lank returned an interception 44 yards for a touchdown.
Marina was hurt by turnovers, however. Marina quarterbacks Chasom Brown and Scott Austin had six passes intercepted and the Vikings lost two fumbles.
Marina led, 14-3, at halftime on two touchdown runs by Austin.
McClellan found Matt Sumner for an 18-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to cut the lead to 14-10, and running back Tom O’Meara gave the Sea Kings the lead with a one-yard touchdown run.
O’Meara led Corona del Mar with 135 yards rushing in 27 carries, and McClellan passed for 194 yards, completing 14 of 30 passes.
