In nonleague Southern Section games:
Rio Mesa 22, Channel Islands 13--Carl Richardson (nine carries, 98 yards) scored from six yards on the Spartans’ opening possession, capping a seven-play, 81-yard drive, and finished the scoring with a 60-yard run in the fourth period at Channel Islands.
Channel Islands tied the score, 7-7, in the third quarter when sophomore running back Sean Biggs scored the first of two one-yard touchdown runs. Biggs finished with 95 yards in 21 carries.
Rio Mesa regained the lead two plays later when Farhaad Azimi (four of eight, 142 yards) threw a 72-yard touchdown pass to Scott Fujita.
