SHARI SHATTUCK’S CHARACTER COMES CLEAN

Actress Shari Shattuck, who plays Ashley on “The Young and the Restless,” got quite a kick out of her character’s obsession with clean shaven skin on the work front.

“It’s like Walt Disney having a moustache, but nobody else at Disney being allowed to have one,” she says, pointing out that Jabot owner Victor Newman (played by Eric Braeden) “has a moustache.”

Shattuck, however, recalls reading some king of psychological study that said women prefer to meet a guy without any facial hair.

“Supposedly, facial hair puts women off a little in the beginning,” she notes. “Then, once they’re with a man for a while, they don’t mind it.”

How does Shattuck feel about a man with whiskers?

“Actually, I kind of like it,” says Shattuck, whose real-life husband, Ronn Moss, plays Ridge Forrester on “The Bold and the Beautiful.” “Ronn had a beard for a while on his show, and I didn’t mind it at all.”

Several weeks ago it was announced that Jill Farren Phelps had resigned as executive producer on “Another World.” Farren Phelps, who had taken over the position in May 1995, ran into “creative conflicts” with the powers that be on the show, and thus decided to move on.

It was announced on Aug. 19 that Charlotte Savitz would be taking over the position Farren Phelps left behind. Savitz officially takes over this month. Savitz’s name is not new to daytime viewers. She began her career as a production assistant on “Guiding Light,” before being named producer a few years later. Savitz was producer of the defunct soap “Capitol” for five years, before she became supervising producer of the Emmy-winning “Santa Barbara” (1988-92). She joined NBC in 1993 as director of daytime programs, where she was responsible for overseeing the creative direction of “Days of Our Lives” and the development of the network’s new soap “Sunset Beach.” She became vice president of daytime programs at NBC Entertainment in June 1996.

There have also been production changes on other soaps. At “The Bold and the Beautiful,” John Zak is now supervising producer, and Deveney Marking Kelly has been named producer.
