Buddy Glenn Booth; Oil Field Worker

Buddy Glenn Booth, a lifelong oil field worker, died at his Ventura home Friday after a sudden illness. He was 66.

Booth was born Jan. 22, 1930, in Haskell, Texas. It was in Texas that Booth, at 16, first set foot on an oil rig, said his wife, Bonnie, of Woodland Hills.

Booth came to Ventura County in the late 1950s and in 1958 went to work for Pool Offshore. He retired from the company in 1990.

For a time, Booth was known as the “Mayor of Foster Park,” according to Bonnie. “We owned a house in Foster Park and he always told everybody what to do and what not to do,” she said. “They all called him the mayor.”

When he wasn’t working or tending to “official” duties like organizing a barbecue for neighbors and family, Booth liked to ride motorcycles. “And he was a major storyteller,” his wife said.

In addition to his wife, Booth is survived by daughters Jodie Barnes and Gina Elliott, both of Klamath Falls, Ore.; sons Danny Booth-Leach and Glen Booth-Leach, both of Texarkana, Ark., Tommy Booth of Ventura, Buzzy Booth of Klamath Falls, Timmy and David Girardin, both of Ventura, Dusty Eichelberger of Blythe, and Terry Booth of Ventura; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother; and three sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.

Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, Ventura.
