Being Responsible for Immigrants
Re “Wilson Plans Immediate Cuts in Food Stamps,” Sept. 19:
I find the statistic that at least half of Orange County’s welfare recipients are legal immigrants rather amazing. That is surely a highly disproportionate level of participation in the food stamp program.
Before we enacted our many social and welfare programs, many immigrants failed to “make it” in this country and returned to their countries of origin. I believe that immigrant sponsors must begin to take their obligations seriously. I do not believe this is a taxpayer problem.
