Cris Carter became the 14th player in NFL history with 600 receptions with an eight-yard catch in the first quarter of the Minnesota Vikings’ game against Carolina.
Jimmy Johnson might not want to admit it, but the Dolphins can’t win without Dan Marino. They have lost eight in a row, and are 5-9 without him since 1993. A look:
1993--defeated Indianapolis, 41-27; defeated Kansas City, 30-10; lost to New York Jets, 10-27; defeated Philadelphia, 19-14; defeated New England, 17-13; defeated Dallas, 16-14; lost to New York Giants, 14-19; lost to Pittsburgh, 20-21; lost to Buffalo, 34-47; lost to San Diego, 20-45; lost to New England, 27-33.
1995--lost to New Orleans, 30-33; lost to New York Jets, 16-17.
1996--lost to Seattle, 22-15.
Nick Lowery of the New York Jets tied the career field-goal record of his idol, Jan Stenerud. Now in his 17th season, Lowery is the career leader in field-goal percentage. He has made 373 of 465 (80%).
With 102 yards against Oakland, Adrian Murrell became the first Jet running back to gain 100-plus yards in consecutive games since Freeman McNeil did it in 1987.
