Public Input Sought on Uses for Grant
City officials want the public’s advice on how to spend a $64,000 state grant on law enforcement services the city may soon receive.
Council members Eloise Brown and Patrick Hunter have scheduled a public forum Wednesday at City Hall to discuss ways the grant could improve the city’s police service. The meeting begins at 5 p.m.
Although the city has not yet received the grant, Ventura County sheriff’s deputies who patrol Moorpark have already created a long list of ways to spend it. The list covers new equipment--computers, surveillance microphones and cameras--as well as personnel, including an additional drug education officer.
At a cost of $278,800, however, the wish list far outstrips the size of the grant. With public input, the council members will try to establish priorities among the deputies’ requests.
