Lopes, Narron to be Interviewed
The Angels, continuing their search for a new manager, have received permission to speak with Padres coach Davey Lopes. Lopes and Jerry Narron, a Texas Ranger coach, likely will be interviewed this week.
“They actually asked awhile back, but I didn’t want it distracting [Davey] during the playoffs,” Padre General Manager Kevin Towers said.
The Angels earlier had sought permission from Ranger officials to talk to Narron.
Lopes, who spent 14 seasons in the majors--nine with the Dodgers--has been a Padre coach for two seasons. He has also been a coach with Oakland, and Baltimore.
Narron, who played with the Angels from 1983-86, has been a Rangers’ third base coach the past two seasons. Narron said he has not been given an interview date, but it will be “sometime this week.”
