Now Comes the Hard Part for Toledo
The idea is to enjoy it while it lasts, and hope that you can upset Arizona State so it can last a little longer.
And Washington, to last still longer.
And California, for an even longer period of enjoyment.
On Monday, UCLA Coach Bob Toledo cherished a victory over Oregon, then sobered quickly.
“The next three weeks, we play games against teams that are 13-1,” he said.
First up is Arizona State, undefeated, ranked fourth in the nation and still dining out on a 19-0 victory over Nebraska two weeks ago.
“Now I know why Terry [Donahue] left,” Toledo said, smiling wanly.
It wasn’t that everything went right in a 41-22 victory at Oregon.
“We still fumbled the first snap of the game, snapped the ball on the wrong count and a lot of things most of you can’t see,” he said to reporters. “There were a lot of mistakes, things we have to do better.”

At halftime Saturday night, Toledo talked again with running back Skip Hicks, reminding him that he had 13 carries for only 20 yards, “and we need 180 yards from you.”
Hicks ran for 153 yards in the third quarter and finished with 175 for the game.

Freshman linebacker Rosco Zamano, who suffered a dislocated knee at Michigan that required more than three hours of surgery to restore circulation, has returned to Westwood, where he is at UCLA Medical Center. He has withdrawn from school, but plans to return in the winter or spring quarter, after another operation.
