Day-Care Limit Might Be Raised
Beginning in January, Placentia residents who operate day-care businesses in their homes may be able to enroll additional children.
The City Council tonight will consider amending the city’s ordinance to allow as many as 14 children in large day-care homes.
State law recently was changed to allow home day-care businesses to care for more children because of a severe shortage of services throughout the state, said Joyce R. Rosenthal, the city’s director of Development Services.
Day-care homes are regulated by the state. Those with eight or fewer children do not need city permits, but larger day-care businesses must have special use permits from the city.
Rosenthal said there are six licensed large family day-care homes in the city.
The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers, 401 E. Chapman Ave.
