Newbury Park Cruises, 49-20
Chris Czernek completed 16 of 22 passes for 319 yards and two touchdowns to pace Newbury Park to a 49-20 victory over Channel Islands Friday night in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.
Newbury Park (7-2, 4-2 in league) jumped on top when Garrett Hobba scored on the first of his two one-yard touchdown runs 2 minutes, 1 second into the game.
Newbury Park scored again late in the quarter when Patrick Reddick caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from Czernek. Reddick had 10 receptions for 177 yards before leaving the game early in the fourth quarter with a bruised right knee.
Just 19 seconds into the second quarter, Newbury Park defensive back Manny Apodaca intercepted a Ryan Yvarra pass and returned it 46 yards for a touchdown. Hobba added his second scoring run later in the quarter to give Newbury Park a 28-0 halftime lead.
Chad Bryant led the Newbury Park ground attack with 79 yards in nine carries. He scored on runs of eight and 10 yards.
Yvarra scored on runs of two and five yards for Channel Islands (1-8, 0-6). Sean Biggs led the Raiders with 68 yards in 13 carries. Biggs also added a 23-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
