Bettendorf Lifts Moorpark, 1-0
Arron Bettendorf scored in the 44th minute off a corner kick by Tony Banales to lift the Moorpark College men’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Mission on Friday in a Western State Conference match at Moorpark.
Joey Medaglia jumped over Banales’ low, line-drive kick in front of the goal, distracting the Mission defense. Bettendorf then redirected it into the net for his fifth goal of the season.
Justin Hanover made 10 saves for Moorpark (8-1-5, 4-1-2 in the conference) and earned his sixth shutout. Diego Valencia stopped 11 shots for Mission (7-5-6, 2-2-3).
Santa Barbara 10, Oxnard 2--Goals by Hector Mora and Peter Maione couldn’t prevent the Condors (3-14-2, 0-7) from being routed in a WSC match at Oxnard.
Oxnard, which trailed at halftime, 8-0, has won five conference matches in the past five seasons.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Pepperdine 2, San Diego 1--Jennifer Evans scored the 54th goal of her career in the 73rd minute to lift the Waves (12-7, 5-2) to a West Coast Conference victory at Pepperdine.
Evans, a senior forward and the Waves’ career scoring leader, chased down a pass by Jennifer Peterson and scored her 11th goal.
Peterson scored her 12th goal in the 48th minute off a pass from Evans to give Pepperdine a 1-0 lead.
Moorpark 1, Santa Barbara 0--The Vaqueros traveled with 12 players to Moorpark but forfeited the WSC match minutes before kickoff because of numerous injuries, infuriating the Raiders.
Moorpark Coach Mike Scanlon said he had to separate the teams after they engaged in a shouting match.
Moorpark (14-2, 11-1) was required by match officials to line up the minimum seven players on an otherwise empty field and kick the ball into the Santa Barbara goal to get credit for the victory.
Raider goalkeeper Joleen Redublo was credited with the first point of her college career.
