Carjacking Ends Quickly in Arrests
Two suspected carjackers were arrested in Garden Grove early Wednesday after threatening a man with a knife and then stealing his Acura Legend from his driveway, police said.
Victor Martinez Bustos, 20, of La Habra, and a 17-year-old Santa Ana boy were both arrested on suspicion of carjacking and possession of stolen property after a short chase, said Sgt. Andy Jauch of the Garden Grove Police Department. Bustos was taken to Orange County Jail and the boy to Juvenile Hall.
The carjacking occurred at 1:30 a.m. when a robber threatened the victim with a knife and demanded his keys in the driveway of his home near Buaro Street and Lampson Avenue, Jauch said. The identity of the victim, a Garden Grove man who was unhurt, was not released by police.
The assailant took the car and sped off, followed by his accomplice in a white Nissan truck. Sgt. George Jaramillo saw them speeding south on Palm Street near Garden Grove Boulevard and minutes later the Acura crashed into a tree at Flagstone Place, Jauch said.
The two fled on foot and were found two blocks away, Jauch said. The truck, which was registered to Bustos, was also later found abandoned near Harbor Boulevard and Lampson Avenue.
