Lakewood Mayfair Stops Fullerton
Staci Dietz had 12 kills as Lakewood Mayfair remained undefeated with a 15-10, 15-1, 15-7 first-round victory over Fullerton Wednesday in Division III-AAA girls’ volleyball.
The Monsoons (14-0), the first-place team from the Suburban League, advance to face the winner of today’s match between Sonora-Torrance Bishop Montgomery in the quarterfinals.
Debbie Samson had 11 kills for Mayfair.
The Indians (7-8), who finished fourth in the Freeway League, were led by Lauren Duggins and Kristina Calvillo, who each had five kills.
“We played a better team tonight,” Fullerton Coach Wendy Vrolyksaid. “We didn’t start any seniors and were fortunate to be here on an at-large berth.
“This was a good learning experience for next year.”
In the Century League girls’ tennis finals:
Wilkins wins title--Canyon’s Shannon Wilkins defeated Holly Freudenberg of El Modena, 6-2, 6-4, to win the Century League single’s title. Wilkins also defeated El Modena’s Christina Hernandez in a semifinal match. Freudenberg defeated Foothill’s Alexanda Petrein the other semifinal match, 6-0, 6-1.
Villa Park’s Fay DeVera and KateyBecker won the doubles final.
