Their Play Is Worth the Weight
In what may have been a first in the NBA’s 50-year history, three 300-pound-plus centers--the Clippers’ Kevin Duckworth and Stanley Roberts and the Mavericks’ Oliver Miller--were featured in the Clippers’ 105-94 loss at Dallas on Thursday night .
“I’d hate to feed them on Thanksgiving,” Clipper Coach Bill Fitch said. “If they stood on one end of the floor together you could do a commercial on the floor strength.”
Fitch, who gave the NBA the Twin Towers when he teamed Hakeem Olajuwon and Ralph Sampson with the Houston Rockets, is thinking about teaming Roberts and Duckworth.
“If we run a double pick with them and the guy doesn’t get free on that, we’ll ship him out,” Fitch said. “You’ve got to get in shape to run around them.
“We can jest about it, but I’m really proud of the way [Roberts and Duckworth] are cutting down. They’re getting some of it off, which is hard to do, I’m here to tell you.”
