In an attempt to improve living conditions in specific areas of the 5th Council District, Councilman Mike Feuer has scheduled community meetings to establish pilot “Livable Neighborhood Councils.”

“The purpose of the councils will be to involve enthusiastic and committed members of the community in shaping the quality of life in their respective neighborhoods,” Feuer said.

The councilman said he hopes the individual community groups will select their own representatives who will establish priorities to make their neighborhoods more livable.

Feuer’s office targeted two neighborhoods in the 5th District for a trial run. One is in North Hollywood, in an area north of Burbank Boulevard. The second is in West Los Angeles. If these programs are successful, Feuer said, his office will work to establish councils in other areas of the district.

Sharon Mayer, field deputy for Feuer, said possible topics for the councils include improving neighborhood safety, eliminating blight and minimizing traffic congestion.

“Ultimately, the idea is to have the representatives from the different groups decide what is important for them and to have them set the agenda for their councils,” Mayer said.
