Sections of a wall similar to the Great Wall of China have been found in Inner Mongolia.

The newly identified clay wall, known as the “Trench of Jin,” was built by a nomadic people who established China’s 1115-1234 Jin Dynasty, the New China News Agency reported Sunday.

Like the Great Wall, which was built in the 3rd century BC to protect China from raiding Mongol tribes, this wall has watchtowers, fortresses and trenches along its outer perimeter. It extends from China’s northeastern Heilongjiang province to the Inner Mongolian city of Baotou, the news agency said.

Another long stretch of wall built by the Jin runs across grasslands extending from the northern Daxinganling Mountains, in eastern Inner Mongolia, to Mongolia, the agency said.
