Trivia time: Not that it’s going to happen now, but the last time the Bruins started a season 0-2 was in 1961, John Wooden’s 14th season, two seasons before his first national title team. One thing UCLA needs to sort out before it faces Kansas on Saturday is the turnover plague. Point guard Cameron Dollar committed eight in the last 25 minutes of the Bruins’ Nov. 20 overtime loss to Tulsa in the Preseason NIT. “Sometimes when we get a lead, we tend to get excited,” interim Coach Steve Lavin said. “We did that last year.” For Northridge, the main issue is the condition of point guard Trenton Cross, who injured his ribs during Saturday night’s loss to Loyola Marymount in a collision under the basket. On Monday, Northridge Coach Bobby Braswell said that Cross’ ribs were bruised and he is expected to start. The Matadors’ only other point guards are walk-ons. With Cross, Braswell said the Matadors’ style is similar to the one Tulsa used to beat UCLA. Northridge has lost its last 16 road games, not counting neutral sites. In other news, Earl Watson, a 6-foot-2 guard from Kansas City, Mo., signed a letter of intent with the Bruins. As a junior at Washington High, Watson averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds.
