2 Guilty in Massive Used-Tire Blaze

The owner of a huge pile of tires in Philadelphia that caught fire and destroyed part of a heavily traveled stretch of Interstate 95 was convicted of risking a catastrophe. Owner Daniel Carr and Gerald Laarz, the dump foreman and Carr’s son-in-law, piled up 300,000 tires, then ignored state warnings to clean up the mess, prosecutors said.
