Los Alamitos Heist Suspect Surrenders to Anaheim Police
LOS ALAMITOS — A Long Beach man suspected in the robbery of a Denny’s restaurant led police on a freeway chase Wednesday before surrendering in Anaheim.
Los Alamitos police were looking for a man who fled in a car after robbing the Denny’s at 4232 Katella Ave. shortly after 3:30 p.m. when they saw a car matching the description of the getaway vehicle with two men in it.
Police halted the car and began to question the driver, Winnie Wang, 25, of Long Beach. But the suspect, Bao Nguyen, 28, of Long Beach, jumped into the driver’s seat and sped away, police said.
Nguyen fled along the San Gabriel River and Artesia freeways before attempting unsuccessfully to carjack another car in Anaheim, police said. He was arrested and charged with robbery, evading arrest and attempted carjacking, police said. Wang was not charged.
Police said they have recovered the stolen cash and Nguyen’s weapon, described as a plastic toy.
