Two School Events Set Next Week
Students in the Tustin Unified School District will put on a science fair next week, while a bilingual advisory committee will host a presentation on drug awareness.
More than 100 students’ inventions will be on display in the multipurpose room at Tustin Memorial Academy, 12712 Browning Ave., at 6 p.m. on Jan. 8. Projects will be judged by members of the Tustin Public Schools Foundation, district administrators and scientists from Silicon Systems on the basis of originality, research, usefulness, illustration and written description.
The fair is intended to help participants prepare for larger competitions such as Irvine Valley College’s Astounding Inventions of the Future and Invent America, a national contest.
For information on the invention convention, call the district’s communications office at (714) 730-7339.
The district’s bilingual advisory committee is holding a presentation, also on Jan. 8.
The program, presented primarily in Spanish, will start at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria at Tustin High School, 1171 El Camino Real.
Guest speakers Veronica Chavez of La Familia Drug and Alcohol Services and Sara Murrieta of the county’s tobacco use prevention program will discuss the dangers of drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
For information on the drug awareness presentation: (714) 730-7380.
