Motor Home Street Parking Ban Rejected
Owners of motor homes--those dream vehicles or eyesores, depending on your point of view--can continue parking on Moorpark streets during the day, the City Council has decided.
Council members Wednesday nixed plans to impose restrictions on the times oversized vehicles can be parked on city streets. The city had considered barring the vehicles between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in response to residents’ complaints about motor homes parked for days on city streets.
But several owners of recreational vehicles told the council Wednesday that the move would severely inconvenience them and their families.
“A lot of us have family who come to visit us in motor homes, and they wouldn’t be able to visit because they couldn’t park,” Moorpark resident Kay Carlson said.
Although Mayor Pat Hunter argued that motor homes could block views of the sidewalk and pose a safety hazard, other council members said the ban was too severe.
“I don’t see this as a major problem,” Councilman John Wozniak said.
