Advice Sought on Placing Sculpture
City leaders have asked arts commissioners to suggest where a life-size sculpture could be placed as part of a scholarship program for high school seniors.
The City Council voted this week to enlist the commission’s help regarding the “Fantasy of Wings” sculpture, which local activist Bruce Hopping wants erected as a symbol of the $1,000 annual art scholarship program.
Hopping’s Kalos Kagathos Foundation would fund the scholarship, which would be named after the late Robert B. Krantz, the artist who created the bronze sculpture.
Hopping’s original goal was to place the sculpture at Main Beach, but city leaders said residents have in the past vetoed any proposal for sculptures along the highly visible strip of coastline.
