*** The Who’s “Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970,” Columbia/Legacy.
No one is going to deny that this landmark band deserves a place in the Hall of Fame. Few figures ever have infused rock music with such dynamics and commentary. From the early “I Can’t Explain” to “Tommy” and beyond, the Who explored youthful idealism and doubts with an insight and power that remain commanding. This two-disc package captures the rawness of the group so well that you can feel the electricity in the air. It includes most of the still fresh “Tommy” and a nearly eight-minute version of “My Generation.”
Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
