Rio Mesa Keeps San Marcos at Foot’s Length
The Rio Mesa High boys’ soccer team tied San Marcos, 1-1, Thursday in a Channel League match at San Marcos, enabling the Spartans to remain in first place.
Forward Jaime Ambriz scored his 14th goal in 12 matches to give Rio Mesa (11-1-4, 6-0-4 in league play) a 1-0 lead midway through the first half. Second-place San Marcos (13-5-4, 5-1-3) tied the match in the 43rd minute on a goal by Jonathan Kolstad.
Santa Barbara 0, Buena 0--Goalkeeper Andy Davies made seven saves to post his sixth Channel League shutout for the Bulldogs (11-2-3, 5-1-2) in a match at Buena.
Kennedy 3, El Camino Real 2--Carlos Perez scored with two minutes to play off a pass from Santiago Carbajal, lifting the host Golden Cougars (7-7-2, 4-3-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference match.
Crespi 2, St. Bonaventure 1--Justin Canel and Brian Esper each scored a goal on assists from Jeff Freedman for the Celts (11-4-1) in the nonleague match at St. Bonaventure.
Chaminade 2, Notre Dame 1--Eric Haas and Travis Theobald scored for the Eagles (7-6-1, 4-2) in a Mission League match at Chaminade.
GIRLS
Chaminade 1, Notre Dame 0--Mindy Wyatt scored in her first minute of varsity play, 15 minutes into the match, carrying the Eagles (14-2-3, 4-1) in a Mission League match at Notre Dame (8-8, 2-3).
Buena 2, Santa Barbara 0--Melanie Montoya and J.J. Toohey scored and the Bulldogs (14-2-4, 6-0-3) seized first place from host Santa Barbara in a Channel League match.
