Barnett, Roumain Help Pace Waves’ Upset Over Hawaii
n In its best showing of the season, the Pepperdine men’s volleyball team upset Hawaii, 15-13, 8-15, 15-6, 17-16, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Thursday night at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu.
Outside hitters Kevin Barnett and George Roumain led the eighth-ranked Waves (3-2, 2-1 in conference play) with 30 and 26 kills, respectively. Barnett, a former Pierce College standout, had 12 digs.
Fourth-ranked Hawaii (4-2, 3-1), last year’s NCAA runner-up, got 41 kills from Jason Ring.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Pepperdine 72, Gonzaga 56--Center Lisa Siders scored a career-high 33 points to lead the Waves (12-7, 4-3) in a West Coast Conference game at Gonzaga.
Siders made 12 of 14 shots.
BASEBALL
Cal Baptist 14, The Master’s 11--Jason Freeman had three hits, including a home run and a double, but Master’s (0-2) lost in a nonconference game at Cal Baptist.
Cal Baptist broke an 11-11 tie with three runs in the eighth inning.
Masters had 12 hits but committed two errors that led to three unearned runs in the second inning.
