Signs to Keep Residents Posted on Local Events

Local residents will no longer have to rely on word-of-mouth to learn about community events.

A pair of inconspicuous signs recently installed along two heavily traveled routes into Oak Park will now keep residents abreast of upcoming public meetings and other happenings.

The 6-foot signs, one along northbound Kanan Road at Tamarind Street, the other on northbound Lindero Canyon Road near Blackbird Avenue, were dedicated Wednesday during a ceremony at the first site.

“We had a sign up before, but it became dilapidated,” said Todd Haines, a member of the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council who attended the dedication, as did Supervisor Frank Schillo and John Osgood, assistant vice president for the Pardee Construction Co., which paid for the signs.

Haines added that the two wooden signs, which include 2-foot by 3-foot glass-enclosed bulletin boards, cost nearly $2,000 each.

“I think it’s another opportunity to make sure the people of Oak Park are informed of what’s going on in their own area,” Schillo said. “And the donation means the taxpayers don’t have to pay for it.”

The signs, stationed along Oak Park’s boundary with Agoura Hills, will alert residents on meetings of the Municipal Advisory Council and Oak Park Unified School District. Residents may also request that community messages be posted if they don’t conflict with meeting announcements.

The newest member of the Municipal Advisory Council, to be inducted Feb. 25, will be responsible for updating the signs’ messages. For information, call Haines at (818) 990-4890 during business hours.
