Chapman Wins in Basketball
The Chapman women’s basketball team won its seventh consecutive game, defeating Christian Heritage, 78-64, in a nonconference women’s basketball game Wednesday at Chapman.
Stef McNamara scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Chapman (17-5), which led, 40-25, at halftime. Lindsay Foss had 13 points for the Panthers, which forced 25 turnovers in its final regular-season home game.
Sara Cisneros scored a team-high 15 points and Jennie Griffin had 14 points and 16 rebounds for Christian Heritage (8-16).
In nonconference baseball:
Biola 10, Chapman 0--Steve Rogers (2-0) pitched eight innings, giving up three hits and striking out nine Chapman batters. Jon Jay hit his fifth home run of the season for Biola (5-1). Chapman is 2-1.
In nonconference men’s tennis:
USC 6, UC Irvine 1--Fernando Samayoa beat Irvine’s Nick Varvais, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0, helping to lead host USC (3-1). Steve Tallakson picked up the only victory in singles for Irvine (1-3), defeating George Basti, 6-3, 6-4.
In Pac-10 wrestling:
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 29, CS Fullerton 13--Tommy Montoya defeated San Luis Obispo’s Mike Mertel (2-7) in the 126-pound match. Montoya won with two takedowns, one reversal, one two-point takedown and three three-point takedowns for an 18-4 decision for the Titans (0-8, 0-4). Mauricio Mora (6-1) recorded the Titans’ only other victory, defeating James Gross, 3-0.
