Benefit in Memory of Michelle Carew
The Canyon High School softball team will host a home run derby this spring to honor former teammate Michelle Carew, who died last April of leukemia.
Proceeds from the “Home Runs for Heroes” derby, a hitting competition where batters get points for how far they hit the ball, will be donated to the National Marrow Donor Program in the name of Michelle, who was the daughter of baseball Hall of Famer Rod Carew.
The school is expecting at least 60 teams of three girls to compete. Elimination rounds will be held every Saturday in March and April at Canyon High School. Two finalists will compete April 26 at Anaheim Stadium before the Angel game.
