Debutante Ball Raises $36,000 for Charities
More than 270 people helped raise more than $36,000 in funds for several county charities by celebrating the coming out of nine Ventura County debutantes at the Doubletree Hotel in Ventura.
Saturday night’s 40th annual debutante ball was organized by Las Patronas, an auxiliary of the Ventura-based Assistance League.
Proceeds from the ball will benefit the Assistance League’s School for Child Development in Oxnard, which prepares developmentally disabled preschoolers for grade school; the Ventura Girls’ and Teen Club; Buffy Bear, a program that donates stuffed animals to police and fire departments to give to children caught in traumatic situations; and Operation School Bell, which provides clothing to needy children.
The ball is the only philanthropic event organized by Las Patronas and raises between $35,000 and $55,000 each year.
