Special Services, Events Mark Palm Sunday
Catholic and Protestant churches held special services throughout Orange County to mark Palm Sunday and the start of Holy Week.
Palm Sunday, or Passion Sunday, which celebrates the story of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem when the multitude proclaiming him king of Israel laid palm branches before him, falls on the Sunday before Easter.
Several local congregations scheduled special services, music and theater performances to commemorate the event.
Bishop Norman McFarland of the Diocese of Orange blessed palms and celebrated Mass at a Palm Sunday service at Holy Family Cathedral in Orange. Later in the day, church members were expected to participate in a procession through the streets of Santa Ana.
