Girl, 3, Killed When Struck by Van
MISSION VIEJO — A 3-year-old girl was killed in the street in front of her home Sunday when she was struck by a van being driven by a neighbor, authorities said.
The child, identified as Christina Epps, was pronounced dead at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center minutes after the 4:35 p.m. accident, Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Richard Paddock said.
Paddock identified the driver of the van as 34-year-old Chrystal Mallett, but said details of the accident were sketchy.
Sheriff’s deputies and paramedics were summoned to the Maple Leaf address about five minutes after the accident, Paddock said. They rushed the child to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, he said.
Paddock said an investigation was continuing.
