Panel Defers Issue of Club Disney Design
The pastel checkerboard atop the new Club Disney will stay in place for at least two more weeks now that the Thousand Oaks Planning Commission has tabled a discussion on possible design violations until members review more information on the issue.
Commissioners said Monday night that they had not received a one-page staff report detailing complaints about the colors and paint schemes used at the Promenade at Westlake shopping plaza. In the report, city planners said the colors at the popular new mall meet Thousand Oaks design guidelines but the checkerboard paint pattern on the Disney clubhouse for children was never approved.
Planning Commissioner Marilyn Carpenter said last week that many residents find the Promenade’s array of muted shades--including yellow, red and blue--appealing, but others have said the plaza looks “like Disneyland.”
The issue will be brought up at a Planning Commission meeting April 7, said Mary Sepe, the planning division’s recording secretary.
