Falling water is rarely a welcome sight during a baseball game, but Buena High was thrilled with a shower in the eighth inning of its Channel League game Tuesday at San Marcos.

Kurt Probasco of Buena squeezed home Ricky Helland to forge a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning. In the eighth, San Marcos loaded the bases with one out, but sprinklers came on in the outfield, and the game was called.

“[San Marcos] came unglued,” Buena Coach Stan Hedegard said. “Saying they were upset would be an understatement but we just got on the bus and got out of there quick. I’m sure they’ll be firing the groundskeeper tomorrow.”
