Edison 3, Santa Margarita 1--Chris Van Reusen had 30 kills and Ryan Hiskey had 63 assists for the eighth-ranked Chargers (3-0), who topped the second-ranked Eagles, 15-13, 11-15, 15-10, 15-12. The Eagles are 3-1.
In Century League baseball:
Canyon 16, Villa Park 0--Jason Reuss hit two home runs and drove in three runs and Scott Walker had four hits and drove in two for visiting Canyon (8-1, 2-0).
Santa Ana Valley 12, El Modena 3--Jesse Gomez had two hits, two stolen bases and struck out six in four innings of relief to earn the victory for Valley (6-2, 1-1).
Foothill 7, Orange 2--Josh Arhart had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI for host Foothill (5-1, 1-0).
In the Sea View League:
Newport Harbor 7, El Toro 6--Garrett Nuzum’s two-run single in the fifth scored the go-ahead runs for Newport Harbor (3-4, 1-1).
Woodbridge 3, Corona del Mar 1--Jeff Pashalides (1-0) pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10 for Woodbridge (6-2, 1-1). Nic Racchia hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to cap a three-run inning.
In the Sunset League:
Esperanza 8, Edison 2--Tom Nicholson had three hits and two RBIs and Ricky Leach also had two RBIs for sixth-ranked Esperanza (7-2, 2-0).
Fountain Valley 5, Los Alamitos 3--Ryan Clark had two hits and two RBIs for fourth-ranked Fountain Valley (6-3, 2-0).
In the South Coast League:
Mater Dei 18, Dana Hills 1--Tony Micheletti had two of second-ranked Mater Dei’s six homers. Mater Dei is 6-1, 2-0.
Capistrano Valley 7, Trabuco Hills 4--Mike Clifton had two hits and drove in two runs for 10th-ranked Capistrano Valley (3-4-1, 1-0-1).
In the Anaheim Lions’ tournament:
Anaheim 19, San Franciso Riordan 5--Edgar Macedo had two home runs and a single and drove in four and Jose Rodriguez had a double and a triple and also drove in four for host Anaheim.
Savanna 3, Houston Sam Houston 3--Joshua Hudson had 12 strikeouts in six innings and Horacio Delgadillo and Sal Alvarado each had two hits for Savanna, which advanced on total bases.
In a nonleague game:
Western 5, Walnut 4--Francisco Vasquez hit an RBI triple to highlight a four-run fifth and he pitched a complete game to earn the victory for Western (5-6).
In Sea View League golf:
Santa Margarita 183, Newport Harbor 214--Senior Kelly Craig shot a three-under for Santa Margarita (5-0, 1-0), which was three-over as a team on the north course at Coto de Caza. Craig drove the ninth hole, a 295-yard par four with an elevated green, and made a three-foot putt for eagle. Nick Fritz shot a one-under 35, Brad Meer shot 37 and Nate Blauer and Jimmy Dunn each had 39 for Santa Margarita.
Corona del Mar 188, Irvine 196--Steve Brooks of Corona del Mar (1-1, 0-1) eagled the par-four fifth hole (316 yards) at the Oak Creek. Brooks shot a three-over 38.
In the South Coast League:
Dana Hills 195, Capistrano Valley 209--Robin Shelton had two birdies and finished with a par 35 for ninth-ranked Dana Hills (2-2, 1-0) at Marbella.
In Garden Grove League softball:
Pacifica 7, La Quinta 0--Amanda Freed (8-0) pitched a perfect game and struck out 14 for top-ranked Pacifica (10-1, 1-0).
In nonleague softball:
Canyon 14, Valencia 0--Veronica Lopez pitched a perfect game with 13 strikeouts for visiting Canyon (9-4). It was her third no-hitter of the season. Becky Tippets had four hits and drove in five runs for Canyon.
Villa Park 1, Magnolia 0 (12 innings)--Erica Shelton scored the winning run in the bottom of the 12th for Villa Park (3-4). Shelton reached first on a dropped third strike with two outs. Heather Culver hit a sinking line drive, which was misplayed by the right fielder, allowing Shelton to score from first.
Mater Dei 9, La Habra 3 (9 innings)--Winning pitcher Marissa Young hit a two-out, two-strike, two-run single in the seventh inning to tie the score, and the fourth-ranked Monarchs (9-2) scored six runs in the ninth--one earned--to beat No. 7 La Habra (9-3). Ruby Rojas hit a two-run homer for Mater Dei and Charlene Oblea hit a three-run homer for La Habra.
In Century League boys’ tennis:
Canyon 10, Foothill 8--In the final set of the match, Canyon’s Luke Fowler and Parag Bhatt rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the tiebreaker and won the final five points and the set, 7-6, over Foothill’s Jeff Barry and John Goss.
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Corona del Mar 10, Palos Verdes Peninsula 8--John Cappello swept in singles, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3, for host Corona del Mar (4-3), ranked fifth in the county and third in the Southern Section Division I preseason poll. Peninsula (5-2) is ranked second in the Division I preseason poll.
