L.A. Baptist Takes 3rd on Home Run
Raul Pacheco’s solo home run in the fourth inning proved the difference for host L.A. Baptist High in a 4-3 victory over Whitney in the third-place game of the L.A. Baptist tournament Saturday.
Pacheco’s homer gave the Knights (8-2) a 4-1 lead, which held up behind a six-hitter by Tim Feirfeil. Nolan Patterson hit a run-scoring double in a three-run second inning for L.A. Baptist.
Campbell Hall 5, St. Genevieve 2--Brian Kriegler (2-1) struck out 11 in 6 1/3 innings and Cole James had two hits, including a double, and scored two runs to help the Vikings (4-5) win the fifth-place game in the L.A. Baptist tournament.
Greg Kriegler and Steve Kim each had two hits for Campbell Hall.
Shizuoka 10, Ventura 3--In the first game of an exhibition doubleheader at Hueneme High, Shizuoka High of Japan took advantage of nine Cougar walks and led, 10-0, after three innings.
Ventura’s Andrew Pflaum made his first varsity start. In two innings he allowed five hits and five runs--all earned--while striking out one and walking three.
Mike Anderson had a hit and two stolen bases for Ventura.
Shizuoka 7, Hueneme 2--Jess Sanchez led the host Vikings with two hits, but the visiting Japanese collected 12 hits and four stolen bases in the exhibition.
Victor Navarro relieved in the fifth and pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit.
St. Paul 12, St. Francis 6--The Swordsmen (6-4) scored seven runs on six consecutive hits with two outs in the third inning to hand the Golden Knights (6-3) their third consecutive loss in a St. Paul tournament game at St. Paul.
Peter Glynn had four RBIs and Fernando Valenzuela Jr. had four hits for St. Francis.
St. Genevieve 8, Serra 6--Sam Okamura had a run-scoring single, a run-scoring triple and a double for the Valiants (6-5) in a St. Paul tournament game.
Mike Chavez (1-1) allowed two runs and four hits in the final four innings, striking out six and walking none, for the victory.
Anaheim Loara 6, Chatsworth 2--Despite losing their final game in the Las Vegas Bishop Gorman tournament, the Chancellors (7-4) won their bracket with a 3-1 record.
Tim Weigand had two hits for Chatsworth, which led, 2-1, after the first inning.
Santa Margarita 8, Hart 7--Hart (5-6) rallied from a 7-0 deficit and closed to within a run on Bob Potruch’s solo home run in the bottom of the seventh in a Corona del Mar tournament pool-play game at Estancia High in Costa Mesa.
Potruch had two RBIs, Chris Wright had three hits and Jeff Gaeta and Matt McAfee each had two hits for Hart.
Royal 5, Upland 4--Jason Bowers had a home run and a double, drove in three runs and scored twice for the Highlanders (4-4) in the Corona del Mar tournament at Newport Harbor.
Scott Goldfarb had two hits and two RBIs and Matt Rainer had two hits for Royal.
St. Bonaventure 17, Thacher 4--The Seraphs (4-6) scored five runs in the fourth and fifth innings in a nonleague game at Thacher that was called after five innings by coaches’ agreement.
