Andrade Helps Century Knock Off El Dorado
Ray Andrade drove in three runs and pitched a complete game as Century stunned second-ranked El Dorado, 6-5, in an Empire League baseball game Friday at Century.
Andrade had two RBI singles and drove in another with a double as the Centurions (5-15, 2-9) built a 5-1 lead after four innings.
The Golden Hawks (18-3, 8-3) sent seven batters to the plate in the seventh and scored three runs, including two on a double by Mark Wade, but Andrade (3-2) induced a ground out to end the game. El Dorado had beaten Century, 11-0, on Wednesday.
In other Empire League games:
Cypress 6, Kennedy 3 (10)--Jason Pushckor’s three-run homer in the 10th moved Cypress within a game of first-place El Dorado. Kennedy’s George Carralejo pitched nine innings and struck out 10 before being relieved by Steve Erwin in the 10th.
Phil Seibel also struck 10 for the Centurions (10-8-2), before giving way to winning pitcher Joe Granados (2-0) in the ninth.
Loara 5, Katella 1--Garrett Ware pitched a five-hitter and was two for four with a double and an RBI for Loara (6-5 in league).
Mike Morales was one for three with two RBIs for Loara.
In the Century League:
Villa Park 2, Santa Ana Valley 0 (9)--Andy Olsen had an RBI bunt single for Villa Park (8-13, 4-7) in the top of the ninth inning. Evan McGinnis also had an RBI single in the inning.
Canyon 13, Orange 3--Jason Corapci was three for three, including a double and a home run, with four RBIs, and three runs scored for eighth-ranked Canyon (17-5, 9-2).
Brian Dane was also perfect on the day batting four for four with three RBIs for Canyon.
Foothill 10, El Modena 0--Clint Blevins had a five-hit shutout to set a school record in single strikeouts with 62 to break the previous record of 56. Jon Stephens had three hits one RBI and two runs for the Knights, which improve to 16-4, 11-0.
In the Garden Grove League:
Bolsa Grande 7, Garden Grove 4--Gus DeLeon had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs in a victory for Bolsa Grande (16-6, 6-3). Joey Francisco had three hits for Bolsa Grande.
Phillip Marquez had two hits for Garden Grove (6-15, 4-4).
La Quinta 15, Los Amigos 1--Morey Aldrup had three hits, three runs and two RBIs for La Quinta (20-3, 7-1). Teammate Shaun Larkin had two hits, three RBIs and three runs scored for the sixth-ranked Aztecs.
Pacifica 8, Rancho Alamitos 2--Paul Tessier had a double, triple, a stolen base and two runs for Pacifica (13-8, 7-2). Tessier reached base four times.
Rancho Alamitos drops to 6-17, 3-6 in league.
In the Freeway League:
Buena Park 9, Fullerton 8--Kyle Kelly was two for three with three runs and Chris Perry was two for three with a double, a triple, three RBIs, three runs and threw out the potential tying run in the top of the seventh inning for Buena Park (13-7, 8-3). Brandon Rosenthal was three for four with two RBIs and two runs for Fullerton (10-10, 5-6).
Sonora 8, La Habra 2--Jeremy Weinberg gave up two runs on eight hits and struck out eight for seventh-ranked Sonora (18-3, 10-1). Weinberg was also two for four with a solo home run in the sixth, his ninth on the season.
Clint Patton capped a five-run first for Sonora with a three-run home run.
Sunny Hills 18, Troy 7--Kevin Ashton had four hits and six RBIs in a victory for Sunny Hills (2-9 in league).
In the Golden West League:
Westminster 6, Santa Ana 2--Shaun Spradling was two for three with a double and three RBIs for Westminster.
In the Olympic League:
Calvary Chapel 6, Whittier Christian 0--John Tucker (7-3) pitched a five-hitter and struck out four and walked two for Calvary Chapel (12-9, 10-1).
In the Orange League:
Savanna 5, Brea Olinda 4--Joshua Hudson doubled in the go-ahead run in sixth inning and then retired the Wildcats in order in the seventh to earn his first save for Savanna (3-15, 1-10).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Laguna Beach 10, Laguna Hills 8--Mike Labeda had a single, double, home run, four RBIs and three runs scored in a victory for Laguna Beach (8-13, 3-8). Tom Banning hit two home runs for Laguna Hills.
Both teams combined to hit a total of eight home runs.
University 18, Costa Mesa 0--Matt McNeil hit a three-run homer in a seven-run first inning and Garrett Atkins was four for four with four runs and two RBIs for University (15-7, 8-3), which has won 10 of its last 13 games.
In the Sea View League:
Woodbridge 10, Santa Margarita 4--Nic Recchia was four for five with two RBIs for Woodbridge (12-10), which upset fourth-ranked Santa Margarita (8-3 in league).
Jake Herold was three for five with three RBIs for Woodbridge. Chad Harris and Kevin Beavers hit home runs for Woodbridge.
In the Sunset League:
Esperanza 9, Huntington Beach 0--Brandon Pack hit a two-run home run, his fourth, and had three RBIs and Nathan Chaote (8-0) pitched six innings, giving up three hits and two walks for Esperanza (17-4, 9-2).
Marina 11, Los Alamitos 7--Adam Spiker was two for four, including a home run and a double, with five RBIs and two runs sand Phil Archer was three for three with three RBIs and two runs for Marina (15-7, 8-3). David Bacani was three for three with two runs and an RBI for Los Alamitos (5-16, 1-10).
