A 29-year-old Huntington Beach man was admitted with second- and third-degree burns to UCI Medical Center on Saturday after falling 30 feet from a high-voltage power pole in Orange, police said.

It was unclear what the man--identified as Edward Gallentine--was doing atop the pole at a Southern California Edison transfer station on North Tustin Avenue, police said. A hospital spokeswoman said Gallentine’s family asked that no information be released about his condition.

Police were called to the site about 8:35 p.m. Friday because of a reported explosion. Arriving officers found Gallentine sitting on top of the 100-foot-high tower, and said he appeared to be “injured, agitated and incoherent.”

Police told him to stay where he was, but he began climbing down. He slipped and fell the last 30 feet, striking part of the structure and a barbed-wire fence before landing, the police report said.

The investigation was continuing.
