Service Will Help Kids Find Jobs
A service that aims to help high school students find jobs will be established as a result of the 1997 La Habra Kids Summit.
Students from local high schools and junior high schools gathered at the Kids Summit in February to discuss citywide problems and propose solutions. One proposal called for the city to start a job finding service.
The city’s Community Services Department, through its Employment and Training Division, agreed to start YES--Youth Employment Service--on May 19.
City Council members last week approved the program, which will cost about $6,000 to set up and operate. It will be headquartered at the Employment and Training office, at 1811 W. La Habra Blvd., and open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on alternate Fridays.
City officials said the service will provide a system for local residents and businesses to list jobs for youths and to allow teenagers to check out the listings for free. Officials envision listings from residents looking for help with a variety of tasks, including cleaning yards and mowing lawns.
The city will advertise the new service at local high schools.
