Inmate Back in Jail After Mistaken Release
A man sentenced to 60 days behind bars for providing false information to a police officer was mistakenly released from the Men’s Central Jail on Thursday, but he surrendered a few hours later to deputies at the Rio Hondo Court in El Monte.
Officers said Jose Alvarez, 32, was convicted and sentenced at the El Monte court on Wednesday. Because forms confirming his sentence were not sent to the jail, he was released about 2 a.m. Thursday.
Deputies said they contacted his friends and family, who told him officials were looking for him. He surrendered at the court about 2:45 p.m. Thursday.
