AROUND THE LEAGUES
Minor league officials rarely admit they underestimated a player but Dodger farm director Charlie Blaney won’t say he could have predicted J.P. Roberge would do after he was taken in the 18th round of the 1994 draft.
“I would say I am pleasantly [surprised],” Blaney said of Roberge, who played at St. Francis High and USC.
Roberge, playing for double-A San Antonio, went into Thursday night’s game with a .320 batting average. Roberge has a .303 average in parts of four seasons.
“He’s just really done a good job,” Blaney said. “He’s not only hitting well but he’s batting cleanup and making things happen.”
