Cypress College Student Suspected of Murder
HUNTINGTON BEACH — Police have issued an arrest warrant for a Buena Park college student they said killed a Downey teenager in a gang attack.
The suspect is 19-year-old Peter Woon Park, a student at Cypress College, Huntington Beach Lt. Dan Johnson said. “He is a gang member and should be considered armed and dangerous,” he said.
Park’s arrest warrant accuses him of murder, Johnson said, and bail is set at $1 million.
Police allege Park shot and killed 17-year-old Yujung Yang-Kong on May 6 during a fight in an apartment complex in the 16800 block of Lynn Street in Huntington Beach.
The two apparently knew each other, Johnson said, adding that they belong to rival gangs located in Downey.
After an argument, Park went to his car, took out a gun and shot Yang-Kong in the chest, police said. Interviews with witnesses led police to Park’s car, which has been impounded, Johnson said.
Anyone with information on the shooting or the whereabouts of Park is asked to call Huntington Beach homicide detectives at (714) 375-5066.
