SMALL FACES
With contributions from the Smashing Pumpkins, Jewel and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony already among those in the can, the “Batman & Robin” soundtrack has now scored a previously unreleased R.E.M. song, “Revolution,” and a new R. Kelly song, “Gotham City.” A video will be shot this week for the Kelly track, with plans to release it as a single sometime in the summer. . . .
Three previously unreleased Beck tracks (one with vocals and two instrumentals) will be on the soundtrack of “Kill the Moonlight,” a film made three years ago by director Steve Hanft, who also directed Beck’s “Loser” and “Where It’s At” videos. The film starts a midnight run at the Laemmle Sunset 5 on June 13, and an album is due from the indie label Sympathy for the Record Industry shortly before.
Members of both Blind Melon and Squirrel Nut Zippers guest on “Scoundrel’s Waltz,” the upcoming debut of New Orleans rocker Joe Tullos, due June 3. . . .
Following a packed Troubadour appearance by a crew of deejays from the Ninja Tune label in March, a second package will do a U.S. tour in June, with, among others, Brazilian artist Amon Tobin and hip-hop collective Herbaliser on board. . . . Artists from the hot U.K. dance label Wall of Sound are also planning a U.S. tour for June to establish a U.S. presence before negotiating for a distribution deal here. Propellerheads, the Wiseguys and Dau Large are expected to participate.
