How Can Church Justify Annulment?

“When a Contract Is Broken” (April 29), regarding the annulment of the marriage of Sheila Rauch Kennedy and Joseph P. Kennedy II, really made my blood boil. How could the Catholic Church, for which I have the highest respect, possibly discount 12 years of marriage and two almost-grown children? How could the church possibly wipe out those years with a simple announcement--as if the love that once existed and the blessing that sanctified the marriage originally wasn’t worth a plugged nickel?
