Incentives Proposed for School Officials
Hoping to spur the creativity and the enthusiasm of school administrators, Moorpark’s school district may create a system to reward managers for extra work.
The proposed incentive plan would give administrators stipends for working on special projects, such as writing grants or starting new educational programs.
“You do additional work, you get additional pay,” said district trustee Clint Harper, who helped draft the proposal.
District trustees, who received a rough outline of the proposed plan this week, may discuss the idea at their next meeting, Harper said.
The proposal would set aside money for stipends from the district’s general fund. The cash would be handed out as grants to pay for specific programs pitched by district administrators.
Each grant would pay for instructional materials and a stipend for the administrators working on the project.
Although the projects receiving grant money should in some way further the goals of the district, the proposed incentive plan does not place strict limits on the kinds of projects eligible for funding. Harper said the lack of constraints should lead to greater innovation among administrators applying for grants.
