Teen on O.C. Freeway Sign Halts Traffic
TUSTIN — Traffic was stopped in both directions on the Costa Mesa Freeway for an hour Friday when a teenager climbed onto a sign overhanging the northbound lanes and refused to come down, police said.
The boy reached his perch by scaling a fence along the McFadden overpass and lowering himself to the sign. California Highway Patrol officers shut down the freeway at 6:30 p.m., when it was clogged with rush-hour traffic.
The CHP said a semi-truck was pulled under the sign so the teenager could get down, but he tried to scramble off the truck and fell. Paramedics took the boy to UCI Medical Center, where he was treated for a broken leg.
