A Panorama City man was arrested Friday after assaulting a Glendale parking officer with his car and speeding away to Sunland where he was captured, according to authorities.

Antoine Bonney, 21, was being held at the Glendale jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest, said Sgt. Rick Young of the Glendale Police Department.

The incident began about 11 a.m. when the parking officer was attempting to impound Bonney’s 1979 Buick for not having registration tags, authorities said.

Bonney returned and told the officer he had the paperwork inside the car. Getting into the car, he started the engine and sped away, nearly hitting the officer, Young said.

Chased by patrol officers, Bonney drove north on the Golden State Freeway and exited in Sunland, Young said. He was briefly cornered in an alley by Glendale and LAPD officers but then began to back out, hitting a fence and a parked truck.

Bonney’s car caught fire after the collision and he was arrested without further incident, Young said.
